Call for national parliamentary inquiry into Arts education and training
Earlier in 2026, NAAE called for a national parliamentary inquiry into Arts education and training. A parliamentary e-petition calling for an inquiry attracted 7,472 signatures, demonstrating substantial public support for national action.
NAAE’s briefing paper sets out the case for an inquiry examining access, participation and provision across schools, tertiary education and training, and the connections between education policy and Australia’s cultural future.
The paper outlines a proposed focus for an inquiry, alongside indicative terms of reference and stakeholders. These provide a starting point for discussion with parliamentarians, the Arts education community and the wider sector.
An inquiry could help inform a ten-year National Arts Education Strategy by establishing a national evidence base, hearing directly from learners and educators, and identifying priorities for coordinated action.
